I can’t believe it, but I actually learned to snowboard this week! I’m not an old dog after all! It was a total exhilarating experience and I am hooked! I took a group of teachers and students to a local hill on Tuesday for the day. I had decided to ski because I wanted to be able to get to all the students with very little effort. My skiing ability is quite good (well not as good as Mark perhaps) as I grew up skiing with my family often. I had been worried that if a student had an accident I wouldn’t be able to get to them on a snowboard as easily. As the day wore on some of the staff kept talking about trying out the boards. We only suffered one accident on the hill all day, which happened to be one of my staff… Finally I agreed to go with Chris to check it out. I’m so glad I did! My instructor was fantastic (a fellow teacher who had suffered a huge concussion and was not able to show off on the jumps fort the rest of the day) and I caught on very quickly. So quickly that my students were amazed and baffled. Now I know I’m not a prodigy or anything like that, but it felt so good to be good at something after just starting! After a run down the “bunny hill” I was starting to cut back and forth and after two more attempts I was ready for the “big hill”. (this is manitoba, so let it be known that “big” is relative) I was warned that I might just dream about snow boarding all night. yup! I’m counting the days until I can go again and teach my kids! I almost wish I wasn’t going to Italy spring break – we could go visit Mark for a boarding trip at Sunshine! Next year we’ll have to come Mark and bring all four kids! You up for that? I’m just so glad that we’re never too old to learn new things and enjoy new experiences! Sometimes I feel much older than I am (having a 12 year old will do that to you) and find myself thinking “old thoughts”. What’s next? We’re talking about Sandusky Ohio – Cedar Point! (a large amusement park with amazing roller coasters that we just have to check out!) We have lots of time to plan for summer yet, but this destination keeps popping up at our house. Even the kids are anxious to get in some great coasters with us. Now all we need is to drive there on motorbikes!
Welcome Home Bill and Lisa! February 15, 2008
I’m so excited for our friends Bill and Lisa who came home from Ethiopia last week with their precious daughter. We understand that the adjustment is going very well (better than expected!) and we are thrilled with them. Unfortunately we had to miss them last Sunday in their first official “outing”, but we look forward to making that up this week! We look forward to having them share all about their trip. I have to keep reminding myself that even though we have no deadlines to meet or milestones to pass right now that time is still passing just as fast as it was before! That doesn’t change! We’re finally to the stage where we are ready to start our next set of renovations. I’m finishing Chelsey’s room tomorrow and hope to start on the rec. room this week. I’m hoping with Dave gone that I can get some of the cleaning and sorting started. In addition I’m still on the blanket making craze. I have been given special permission to buy more fabric tomorrow even though it is not a month since the last buying trip! (my husband is the very best ever)
